Well, it finally happened. We had a power surge at home, and despite the computer being hooked up to a surge protector our computer crashed and our operating system became corrupted. My first thought... our pictures. My husband went pale because he was supposed to transfer everything to an external drive and never got around to it.

Fortunately, we were able to transfer the data to a new hard-drive and save our pictures. I do translations and the thought of losing documents didn't even upset me, it was pictures of my children, my family and my puppies that kept me awake the few nights my computer was out for repair. Of course, everything is backed up in duplicate or triplicate form now due to that awful experience. I hope to never go through that again!!!

How scary! There's nothing worse than loosing your pictures. I lost some once when my computer died. Fortunately I was able to copy some of my favorites back from Boxerworld. I am much more careful now. :) I think it's time I backed up my photos again!

Sorry to hear about it. Do not forget to backup often too! I usually do a daily backup for important things, and a weekly backup for the rest. With photos, I leave them in the memory cards until they have been copied into two hard disks.

I would do well to follow your example. It's much too easy to trust technology and you never think these things will happen to you, and then they do. I've learned my lesson the hard way, I'm afraid; but I will certainly be more careful from now on. :o

Oh how awful. I have big surge protectors they are called back ups, they run about $200.00+ but worth it. So glad to hear that your pictures were saved.
