I have 4 bags. Two are cheap bags I got in a hypermarket, the third bag is a Delsey Go Pix (like the black and grey one at http://www.koodinternational.com/delsey/go80-85.pdf) and the last bag is a Tamrac Adventure 8 (http://www.tamrac.com/5248.htm in black) I got for free with a yearly subscription to a photo magazine. It was the main reason for getting that magazine ;)
I use the Delsey the most as it is small and easy to carry. The only problem is if I take the Nikon 18-70 lens and the Sigma 70-200, the Sigma must be attached to the camera. No enough room for it!
The Tamrac is bigger but it is divided in two and the camera goes in the lower part of the bag. The upper part is for carrying sandwich etc as it is not protected.
I am looking for a longer bag similar to the Delsey. I like the one at http://www.tamrac.com/5747.htm because it give quick access to the camera. The one at http://www.tamrac.com/759.htm is nice too, big enough for carrying many lenses and a laptop. I can spend hours looking for the perfect bag :D

Sophia, do you have a photo of your bag with all your camera accessories?
I forgot to say for the Canon Pro90IS I have a Canon bag that is made for it (same shape than the camera). We used to see many of that kind in the past but not often nowadays.

Olly, I've been looking for a new bag and I love the photo sling pack that you provided the link for. I will begin looking for it. It seems to suit my needs well (as I don't have many lenses or peripheral equipment) and the way it's so easily accesible is wonderful. Thanks!

I tend to use large waist pouches for my camera. This is one I have. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=676423&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=337063&bmUID=1117990255463

I also have one similar to this: http://www.mountainsmith.com/store/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=434&category_id=1d9274e1bdaf11e54fcc81719d90222c
This is the one I took to europe and it was quite useful. It was amazing what you could actually stuff in it.

I also have a couple of smaller waist pouches that I use on a regular basis. It all depends what I need to take. The problem is that if I am taking Tara, I need somewhere to put her dummy. The pouches designed for water bottles work quite well for that. I am still looking for the perfect bag. :)

Sophia: what a full bag! Do you often change lenses when you are away? I worry about getting dust on the sensor so I try to change lenses only at home.

Roosje: that is exactly the kind of camera bag I have for the Canon Pro90 :) It protects well but the problem is the uneasy access to the battery/compact flash.

Lisa: I found that bag online but not in "real stores". I still hesitate... It is hard to know if it is big enough without seeing it.

Jan: great bags. I haven't seen bags like that that big. The only ones I know are for carrying lenses.

I try to change lenses in the car, taking the camera off first, but with no luck, the CCD needs cleaning, but i don't use f less that f11 so the dust doesn't appear on the photos.I usually take photos from f/5.6 to f /11
Not so many landscapes photos :)

I'm afraid the Velocity 7 isn't big enough either, but I do believe the larger model Velocity 9 - Pro Sling Pack is the perfect size for my needs. http://www.tamrac.com/5749.htm
Thanks for the great idea! (I already ordered it ;))

Okay Jan and Olly. I'm on standby to "review" the camera bag. I really hope it works as well as I imagine it will. We'll see. :)

Finally tried out the new backpack at the zoo and museum. It's nicely padded and has plenty of room for the long lense as well as padded compartments (that are adjustable) for any additional lenses. It has pockets for filters and other accessories. It distributes the weight well and slides easily from your back to the front where you can access the equipment.

On the down side, I wish it had a few pockets that were more easily accessible from the outside (without having to open the main compartment). You must latch all three openings for the camera to be secure and if your wallet (for example) is in the outside pocket, you must unlatch the latches that secure the camera and then remember to latch them closed again. Kind of a pain.

Overall I like the backpack as it frees my hands (for wily children and puppies on leash, etc.) but would suggest the manufacturer make it somewhat more functional for storage of non-camera type personal items (sunglasses, wallet, etc.).

The bag I bought is by Roots, its a back pack which I find so much mor comfortable than a shoulder strap, leaves your hands free too. It has many compartments, inside there are many compartments too which are all velcroed so you can move them around to suit your needs.

Look similar to this one:

It must be nice. :) A new camera, lens and now a new bag! You are almost all set. Do you have a tripod?

Colleen
07-18-2005, 12:24 AM
Yes I have a tripod that I bought with my other canon. I don't use it much but maybe I will now with my new camera, I find it hard to take macro's with my new camera especially when the object moves so much or me!

JanR

I think you really need a tripod to take good macro photo's!

Thank you for the review, Lisa :)
Do you know if it can carry two SLR with their lens?

Colleen: if the tripod you have was for the light powershot, be careful with the heavier slr especially with a heavy lens... It might be better to get a solid tripod if it is not the case yet. Much safer :)

Olly, two SLR might fit depending on how many additional lenses you are carrying. The pack is divided into three sections in the main part with the middle section being the largest. The sections are divided by padded material and when I slip my SLR with the long lense there it still has some room above. I believe an SLR with a standard lense might fit there. Then there are the other sections on each side which would definitely hold a long lense on each side and there are moveable padded dividers that attach with velcro. Are you confused yet

I think you could definitely fit two SLR with standard lenses and another two long lenses (one in each side section) or other configurations that would suit your needs. The moveable padded dividers make it somewhat flexible to your needs. The top compartment has zippered pockets for filters, and small objects. It secures quite well with three connectors (one in front and one on each side = 3). However, you must make sure all three are secured or it will not hold everything in.

If you need some pics of certain areas, let me know. ;)

Thank you for all the details :)
I do not think I would have additional lenses when I am traveling etc because I am worried of dust since I had troubles with my two SLR.

Just came across this backpack by Canon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009R6TA/ref=pd_thx_recs_2/103-2298428-7053451?v=glance
It seems to have some nice features.

This is the Canon bag I just ordered with my SLR. I paid $49 (looks like it was a little bit cheaper at Amazon -- ooops)

I can write a review of it once I receive it early next week :)

This Canon backpack is huge! For some reason, it is bigger than I thought it would be (looking online). It is about the size of a regular school backpack.

That said, it seems to have a lot of functionality. There are lots of compartments on the inside for different lenses, filters, battery, my cell phone and money LOL. I'm sure I can find something that I do not like about this bag, but for the money I think it is a great value. It is insulated pretty well, too.

I'm sure that a backpack bag is more comfortable to wear than a shoulder bag when we have to carry all the supplies for long time, but i wonder,
when you wear the bag to the front and open it to get something from the bag is it safe?
Is there the danger something to fall from the bag or you have to take it off,put it down and unzip it to get the camera out?

Yes, I set the bag down (or open it very carefully) because it opens from the front and there is the potential of your camera and lenses falling out onto the ground.

Overall though, the bag is nice. I like that when I travel with this SLR, I can put everything I need to take with me in the bag (I don't have to carry a handbag also when I am walking around town). Or, my husband can carry the backpack and it feels 'manly' enough for him, LOL.

It's not very stylish and maybe not the most practical, but I read somewhere that if you carry your camera equipment in a car a lot and are worried about someone stealing it, that you should carry your equipment in a diaper bag. No one is going to steal that!

Years ago,in 1989-90,a scandal hit in Greece. They carried the money in diaper bags and noone could imagine there were money into :D

I wouldn't want to leave mine in a car either. I think it was more for those that do it for a living and basically have to have their equipment always close by them. They say the best place to hide something is in plain sight! :D

The diaper bag is a good idea for sure. Mine is a back pack style and it only says Roots and Canada on it, nothing to say its a camera bag. I noticef a lot of camera bags at the airport last week that said Canon, not too smart.

I think I will get the Lowepro CompuTrekker AW:
http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Backpacks/notebook_camera/CompuTrekker_AW.aspx
I have seen it at the store and tried it a little. Two SLR can fit in and there is still room for lenses. It appears also much more balanced than my Delsey (it hurts my back because it is located too high).

You've very nice bags here! I must buy one but i dont want to look like a camera bag, i want it like a school bag but with protection inside.

I just thought why they doesnt make a bag that the zipper would be no outside like all the others, but inside.I mean , the zipper to be on the side that touch the back so none can open it while you carry the bag!

My Tamrac (http://www.tamrac.com/5248.htm) has a cover that hides the zip and it does not look really like a camera bag. Actually it is a good bag if you do not have long lenses. When I was in Brussels last month, I managed to put a D70 with a wide angle lens and a 350D with a 50mm and the 18-200. It was full :D The top part of the bag was used for my hat and gloves.

Olly have you ever used a sling bag. I like the idea that you can swing it around without taking it off. Large waist pouches tend to bother my back and I wonder how a sling bag would be? I am thinking of the Tamrac Velocity 7 #5747.

Has anyone used one?

Sophia that is a very nice bag, but it is bigger than I need. I was talking about this one: http://www.tamrac.com/5746.htm It's one that Olly had mentioned before. I like it because it is a sling bag, that you can rotate around to the front of you, without taking it off. :)

I am looking for a bag to carry my digital Canon rebel xt, 18-55 lens, extra lens 55-200, small dv camera and a few other comparments for digitals cards, cell phone, sunglasses, ect. Any ideas. I do like the swing around backpacks as I would like to not take it off all the time. I do alot of car shows and some hiking. Thanks for any help.

To go with my new camera I bought the Lowepro AW200. I had been interested in the Tamrac, but I couldn't find one to try. The camera store had the Lowepro one so I bought it. It has lots of room to store my camera and any lenses that I get in the future. :)
