Hello,
I'm looking for a new tripod. I have a cheap Kodak tripod that has a screw for lateral movement, one for horizontal movement, and the typical pan handle lock (if that makes sense.)
I'm looking for a more modern ball head that can be locked at any angle. I see many of them have bubble levels.
I want it to be light but sturdy. I want it to stand high enough. Maybe 5 feet or so?
It seems that "Slik" is the most popular one. Are there any others I should look at? What models would you recommend? Anyone have anything for sale I could pick up at a reasonable price?
Feedback would be appreciated.
Rob
When you find the perfect tripod, let me know! LOL I know my brother has a Slik tripod with the ball head. We used to use it a lot when we went birding with a scope on it. It worked great as you could pan it around at any angle and you could lock it at any position. It worked great. It was pretty heavy though.

One month ago i bought a Manfrotto 190PRO http://www.manfrotto.com/product/templates/templates.php3?sectionid=86&itemid=768
and a Manfrotto ball head 486RC2 http://www.manfrotto.com/product/templates/templates.php3?sectionid=8&itemid=1952
The tripod along with the ball head are 2.5 kg and i like that i can release it from the camera very fast
Easy,light and steady :)

Thanks Douma. I'll take a look at those. How much did you spend? I didn't see prices at that link.

I'm looking at the Manfrottos. Just trying to take moon pictures and lights you definitely need a tripod of some sorts that is light to carry and compact.

Have no idea yet will have to look into it all. They sell them right here locally so when I get a chance I will have to take a look. I have one for the house its just when you travel it would be so handy.
I spent hours in several camera stores this afternoon as I was looking for a tripod that is light enough for traveling and under 50cm when packed (it is for the airplane hand luggage) and at least 140cm tall when in use.
No luck and things were starting to be very expensive so it will be for another time. I want to use a ball head too.

If you take the head off of the tripod?
