I was wondering if anyone uses a lens hood? I bought one for my camera its ,its a Tamron and is supposed to cut out glare from the sun. Does anyone find that it makes shadows? or not let enough light in? Also do you use your lens cap with it? I don't. I guess it protects the lens too.
I use a lens hood, but only in bright sunglight and never with the flash as it can cause shadows in the corners. :)
I lost mine (http://www.boxerworld.com/sigma70-200.jpg) when I was in Paris last time. Not sure where I lost it. LOL Well, I thought it was useful also for protecting the lens too. With a wide angle, it is needed for not getting lens flare (http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/lens-flare.htm) especially when taking a photo at night with all the public "parasite" lights.
It should not make shadows excepted with flash at wide angle. Are you sure it is related to the lens hood?

I have a round lens hood for the 70-200,but it's so big that it doesn't fit in my bag among the camera and the lenses,i think i will soon need a suitcase  LOL
also i can't put the cap on the lens at the same time with the hood, all these make me use it very rare, but even then when i use the hood i take better photos under the harsh sun

Exactly the problem I had! Now that I lost the lens hood for the Sigma 70-200, the problem is solved ;) That's why I was not that upset when I lost it...

There you go this is the solution to your camera case needs. Loose what you don't have room for :)
My camera (fuji finepix S5000) came with a lens hood. I have not used the camera without it. I will have to do a little experimenting. I like the added benefit of protection that it provides to the lens. I am not the most gentlest person with equipment!
