I usually use auto mode.
I use the symobol for sports action and action shots
I'm even sure about the av tv p m yet???

I read about them but sometimes its hard it would be much easier to have someone tell me.

I feel you,i'm just like you,i can't learn something just reading about it,i have to practice with the camera, because if not,i may read about it again and again and i can't learn it
When i used my SLR i had a notebook in my bag and when i took a photo i wrote in the notebook the EXIF and checked it when i had the film developed.
Now with photoshop and digital it's easy, when you take a photo and think that is good, check the EXIF of the photo on your software(photoshop for example) and you will learn to use the creative zone of your camera very very soon:)

I am in AV mode when using the Nikon D70 and in P mode when using the 350D. Why? Because on the Nikon I use often the Sigma 70-200 (constant) f2.8 so the change in AV will have some effect. With the Canon and the Sigma 18-200 there is not much that I can do (at full zoom it is f6.3 anyway) so the P mode is fine.

It is like the AUTO mode excepted you can control the flash, ISO and autofocus points.
