Colleen

OMG you guys have never had pavlova?

Colleen I think Australian and NZ 'traditional' food is basicly the same, I cant think of many differences. It does come from aussie, but we both like to claim each others stuff as our own lol :D

Pavlova is like a meringue type dessert that is covered in cream and strawberries and kiwifruit :D It is not like icecream. Its SO good!

Ooh and heres a pic of one.

Maybe you should whip one up :D Its kinda crunchy on the outside, and light and fluffy on the inside. They are quite hard to make though. The last three my sister has made all ended up 1inch think blobs looking/tasting more like marshmallow than pavlova

Lol needless to say we buy ours pre made most of the time now :D

Yes they are grape leaves as wrapping and we eat those, but we use the tender fresh leaves that grow in the summer months.Inside there are rice, onion, olive oil, fresh dill and also there is the same recipe adding minced meat :)

(the translation of the cabbge rolls) but the difference is that instead of tomato we garnish them with egglemon sause :)

Colleen

Sorry, I've been too sick to take my food photo :(

Olly

The kebab was not that great. The pitta bread could be better... And yes, it was chili sauce on it and reasonably spicy (you have no idea how spicy is my home made bottle of olive oil! LOL).
The pavlova looks good. It has been a long time I haven't eaten a cake...

That sounds great. You have no idea how much I love spicy food. :D

When you come to visit, I'll take you to a place in town with spicy chicken wings and sandwiches. They have about 10 different degrees of spicy. I like #9 or #10 (if I can do it). 10 being the spiciest ever

Im not a big fan of spicy foods. How do you guys know what the food you are actually eating tastes like if your mouth is on fire?

Olly
11-07-2005, 10:49 PM
But that's the problem: if it is not spicy, it is bland!

Colleen
11-07-2005, 11:30 PM
I like spicy but not HOT My friend sprinkles chili pepper on his pizza, I was in a Mexican restaurant once and I don't remember what I was tasting but with the first mouthfull I had tears coming down my cheeks, the waiter said to me just keep eating it in a minute you won't feel it anymore:D

I really don't know what to take a picture of, we really don't have any specific food here.
