I was just looking at Sophia's christmas picture of Avra and saw the double exposure thing. So was it really two pictures combined into one? I would never have guessed! Is it relatively easy to do on photoshop?

It came up with this on google http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Image_Techniques/Double_Exposures_01.htm

If I give it a go, any pointers?

I placed the camera on the tripod and i took a photo of the tree without Avra in the photo, because Avra is white and it wasn't possible to take the right exposure of her and the tree in the same photo, and i didn't want to use the flash because i would lost the mood of the bulbs of the tree.....
so i took the photo of the tree (exposed for the shadows)and then asked Avra to pose and i took another photo taking the right exposure focusing on Avra (exposed for the hightlights)and the tree appeared almost black.

Then i combined the two photos(the photo of Avra/tree and the photo of the tree alone)in the photoshop as separate layers and using the eraser tool i
removed bad exposed areas to reveal details of the best parts of each layer

Of course this way requires a tripod to ensure that both compositions match perfectly :)
Also it's a good article http://luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital-blending.shtml

I guess I need to read more carefully! I had no idea that was a double exposure. Very interesting article! Sophia, how long did it take you to do this?

Do you mean to edit the photo in the photoshop?it was about 3-4 min.Inside house i shoot in RAW,thus i can fix the white balance on pc just with one click, and then i combine the two photos and use the erase tool on the layers, merge the layers, save and it's done :)
It's really easy and this way is very useful in the situations with antithesis between highlights and shadows
The only thing that you need is a tripod :)

Yes, that is what I meant. That didn't take very long at all! I will have to try it sometime. When I do, I might have some questions. :D
