Well I just decided to try out my new macro lens (another book to read:rolleyes: ) I tried to take a picture of a flower I have but my camera is reading err99??? I erased all the pictures I had on the camera and I am now recharging my battery. The book says an error other than listed above, err 1 2 4 5 ? Any ideas?

Did you get this err 99 with another lens before? This is a common problem between the camera and lenses.Try another lens and see if the problem goes away.
One think that could cause err 99 are the contacts of the lens.Check if the lens is firmly attached to the camera, try to clean very firmly the contacts and see if the err 99 goes away.
Check if the battery is firmly attached.
Check the card, take it out and re attach it

From what i had read in severals forums this problem is very common and caused from the contacts of the lenses

In most cases it happens with a no Canon lens, but it could happen with a Canon lens too.If you clean the contacts and the err 99 would happen again, then you should call the shop you take the lens
Hope it's not something serious

how would you do that

Using an antistatic cloth( i did using the velvet case of the lens, but i'm not sure if it's a good idea)and also check all the plastic of the lens, turn the ring, turn on and off the switces of the lens,i mean the AF/M and the cm on the lens.

I tried everything and still err99, but not on my other lens so I went back to the store here in town and the guy tried my new lens with another rebel and it read the same err99 code. He is calling Canon on Monday to see what they say, probably a new lens.:D

I hope you will get the new lens soon. It is weird you are getting this error with a new Canon lens.
That err99 means unknown error :D

My dad always used to tell that just because something is new, doesn't mean there can't be something wrong with it. Sometimes bad items slip through quality control.
