It was very humid (I had to clean the lenses because of the condensation) and it would be good to have a torch as it is pretty dark. The ground is slippery too.

Very interesting, and a bit creepy I'm sure. I have heard of them before but i had no idea they were that extensive or open to the public.

I have heard of the catacombs, but I had no idea that there were all those skeletons down there. I don't think I could go and look at them. Way too creepy.

No, before that time. They had to move all the skeletons so they could build on cemeteries.

Olly do you have any relatives in there?
Sure. I said hi to my great great great great grand father ;)

Maybe 6 tourists for the 2km of walk? It is not busy at all. You do not see people well because it is dark and also because the gallery turns often. You can't get lost when visiting the official catacombs but I have read about people getting lost when they were visiting the rest of the quarries by themselves (which is forbidden and 170 miles/+300km of galleries isn't small).
There are some guardians at the entrance and exit. The only annoying thing is the exit isn't near the entrance. It is about two metro stops away.

lol Thats all? You dont see into the future and communicate to the dead as well? Im losing all respect Olly :D:D:D

300km is insane! You really wouldnt wanto to get lost there. That must have taken so long to stack up all those bones though. That could be put on the "worlds worst jobs' list.

When I saw a guardian there in the dark and humid place, I thought it was a pretty bad job... Well, maybe with a Gameboy it's ok. LOL

I found a site where the people visited some of the 300km where we are not allowed to visit. You can see a part that was used as a bunker by the Germans during the war.

Lol seriously? I suppose it would hurt if one of those touched your head!

Whats with all the water here? Is it sinking or was it always like that?

There is always some water. The text says even fisherman long boots won't help plus the roof is low at some places. You need to swim a little.
They call that place the Corsica beach because it is rocky.

It doesn't look too far from Auckland. You should definitely visit it this summer :)

Maybe thats a good thing that it isnt creepy? Glow worms vs. bones. The fun is in the black water rafting you can do too, and trying not to get claustrophobic while doing it ;)

Those caverns are really nice, "Non, c'est pas par là, trop bas... bon, euh... on est perdus, j'crois bien... pis en plus j'ai oublié le plan... c'était bien le mur de gauche qu'y fallait suivre... allez, je rigole, c'est encore à gauche... Thats what I would be afraid of getting lost yuk!

Nice butterfly though. I've been in nice caverns in Virginia and some in Quebec, You have to wear helmets with lights, I just hate the right spaces and the water.

Very challenging though.

Have you been in the lafleche caves? I assume thats probably the one in Quebec you're talking about. They have nice Stallagmites and Stallactites there. I rememeber the last time I was there there was like a dead, molding rat in the middle of the pathway.

Colleen
04-24-2006, 05:04 PM
Yes thats the ones, the Lafleche cavernes, also a bear had fallen in the biggest hole above and couldn't get out and they found only bones, thats what we were told.

 oh no thats really sad about the bear. I havent been there in a long time, apparently its changed quite a bit since I was last there, thought I dont know how much caves can change.
