Has anyone used this lens or read any review on the net or a magazine?
i'm searching for a wide lens and i'm looking for a Sigma 10-20mm or a Canon 17-40 4L
Yesterday i went to a shop and asked for these lenses and the salesman suggested Tokina 12-24 as a good wide lens,I took some photos with both these lenses(Tokina and Canon) and then i checked the photos on the screen of the pc. I think that Tokina is good and sharp in the center and blur and distorting at the edges,i can't decide if it'a a good lens or not
Here is the photo taken with Canon 17-40 4L at 17mm

and this one taken with Tokina 12-24 at 12mm

Both photos are as they turned out of the camera.

They both look good to me. I found this review, seems like you need a good filter but it has a good clutch mechanism.

Me too,but the 17-40 isn't as wide as i want.Canon has another wide lens,10-22mm,but it's EF-S and i couldn't use it on D60 or film camera

This that i didn't like on the Tokina is the way you transform from AF to M,it hasn't a button, but you have to turn whole the front ring,it looked somehow strange to me,but i suppose it's something i can get used to easily

The Tokina is not made for film cameras. It is like the EF-S lemses.
From http://www.thkphoto.com/products/tokina/afl-00.html
The all-new AT-X 124 AF PRO DX lens is Tokina’s first lens designed for use exclusively on Canon and Nikon Digital SLR cameras having an APS-C sized sensor.
I remember reading good reviews about that lens when I was looking for a wide angle for the D70. It was good and half price compared to the Nikon 12-24... That said, between a 10 and 12mm there is a big difference.

I REALLY enjoy my 17-40L. Its always with me. And I've found it fits my wide needs for the most part. The colors are fantastic from this lens &barrel distortion isn't much of an issue. And the copy I have is SUPER sharp, even wide open at F4.
the 10-22 by Canon is a great lens. It has the quality glass of a L series & super sharp.
here's a nice link with examples & reviews of Canon stuff.

no i do not own the 10-22. But I have borrowed one from a friend.
the really wide end is fun to play with. addictive actually....but then you realize the only photos you've taken all day have been at 10mm.:D
very cool lens, and worth the money if you find yourself using/needing that focal length often.

I would like an ultra wide angle lens, but i wonder if it would stay on my camera most of the time.
