It looks a bit like a gerbil, but You can't really tell, as you can't see it's tail. I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

Come on now guys your not reading the posts! above I told you what it was its a Degu! It belong to a friend of my sons girlfriend. She couldn't keep it in residence and my son and his girlfriend have no place in their apt, so, I have it till school ends. They are cute, one died (not when I had it) and this little girl goes around and around in that wheel I bought her, they squeal and talk.

Now were in trouble Laura. LOL I had a never heard of a Degu. I noticed the website said that they looked like Gerbils only bigger.

Laura I'm surprised that you don't find them in New Zealand. Maybe they are not allowed.

LOL sorry Colleen.. my apologies :D Ive never heard of one of those before.

Jan we dont get them here (hamsters and degus) for biosecurity reasons. Ferrets have been banned now too for the same reason. They eat all our native flora and fauna. If you try to smuggle in a hamster you can get up to 5yrs in jail or $100,000 fine :)

WOW those are hefty fines. I think the degus are from Chile.
