View Full Version : tips for shooting water
-Shanz- 04-17-2006, 12:32 AM Im going for a bike ride tomorrow afternoon and Im going to go on the path that goes down by the Ottawa river (its more like a lake) s I'm going to take my camera with me. Just wanted to know if anyone had any pointers for me :)
Douma 04-17-2006, 04:26 AM If you have a polarizing filtre, put it on the lens and you will see a huge difference...the colours, the light, everything would be better and you will see more details on the photo! It is very useful on landscape photography.
I would also take the tripod with me :)
Colleen 04-17-2006, 08:05 PM Shannon must be windy down by the river today. Nice out though, want to see your pictures.
-Shanz- 04-18-2006, 02:08 AM Colleen, it was gorgeous out today. I may have even gotten a bit of a sun burn. Unfortunately, my pictures didnt turn out as well as planned, I couldnt get the sun to my back. My lap top crashed and deleted everything on my comp (including all my school work and exams are next week) So im a bit of a panic, I'll try to post the pics as soon as I can. My bike ride ended up being more of a nature adventure than anything lol. Got a bunch of animal pictures (birds groundhod, beaver etc) The place I wanted to go doesnt all ow bikes so Ill hafta go there some other day without my bike and theres all kinds of animals there (herons, turtles etc.)
Colleen 04-18-2006, 02:49 AM I got a bit of a tan myself, just cleaning up the back yard today. Please be careful out there if your alone!

Oh no!!!!!! Stupid computers!! That would be horrible losing all the school work, esp right before exams (good luck btw :D).
Im looking forward to seeing your animal pics :D
-Shanz- 04-19-2006, 11:50 PM i posted some of the pictures to this site. Hopefully the link works. Really only the animal pictures turned out because I was able to turn my back to the sun to photograph them

Colleen 04-22-2006, 10:04 PM those are nice pictures, love the camouflage one.
Checkers 04-22-2006, 11:26 PM Great photos :D I love the last one and the squirrel-in-the-pot one :D
Douma 04-24-2006, 06:59 PM Very nice photos, the angry goose is funny and i also love the photo of the squirrel.Didn't the groundhog was afraid of you?was it close?
-Shanz- 04-25-2006, 01:52 AM Actually Sophia,I was able to get fairly close to all the animals. I was almost able to pet the geese and ducks, but the angry goose started to honk at me lol. The groundhog I got about 5 or 6 feet away from it, but when I tried to move close, it jumped into its hole :). The Beaver was on the other side of the water, so I wasnt able to get any closer other than with my zoom. I actually almost stepped on the duck in the camoflage picture because I didnt I notice her! Im Waiting for the weather to subside and stop raining so that I can go to the little nature preserve thats near my house and take some pictures. Exam week is over this week and I have Sunday off so I'm praying for some good weather and it'll be a nice relaxation for me :)
Douma 04-25-2006, 04:41 AM 5-6 feet is very close,i guess people feed them, thus they imprinted on human beings :)
Checkers 04-25-2006, 06:56 AM You can get pretty close to the geese where I took my bird pics, but they will chase you. LOL I hate geese so im glad I had Lily with me to keep them away. They especially like little children to chase. I still have fond memories of my sister being chased by a goose :D
Douma 04-25-2006, 09:51 AM I still have fond memories of my sister being chased by a goose
I'm afraid of the birds, because when i was child a huge rooster chased me,i was running and he was flying and tried to attack on my head :( i remember the shadow of his open feathers behind me
Colleen 04-25-2006, 11:46 AM Our fields here are now covered with Canada Geese. I will bring my camera with me to work today and see if I can get a picture of them even though its still raining out. The geese can be pretty mean, they spit and bite and are quite big:eek: Shannon there is a place down by Mooneys Bay where you can see this murder of crows, there has to be like 70 - 80 crows all together sitting on the ground, never seen that before really eerie.
-Shanz- 04-25-2006, 01:40 PM lol bf was sitting on the grass leaning against a tree watching me take pictures and when the angry goose started honking and walking towards me he started laughing and was waiting for it to chase me. Some birds can be so cranky.
Colleen, I dont know if Id be too thrilled to be around that many crows at once...thought iw ould be a sight to see. Im waiting for the tulip festical to start so I can go downtown and take pictures. I'll probably stop off at parliament and visit the parliament cats and take some pictures of them too. Do you know when the tulip festical starts?? I havent been to it in forever. Im sure I could find it online somewhere
Colleen 04-25-2006, 01:46 PM I haven't been to the tulip festival in awhile either or to see the cats. Here is a link to the festival:

Checkers 04-25-2006, 10:32 PM LOL here you cant go to Western Springs (where the pics were taken) as a kid and not get chased by the geese. It like a right of passage for being a child in my city ;)
I got chased many times, and it always funny when it happens to someone else, but utterly terrifying when it happens to you!
