Have any of you shot infared photos before? I just ordered a Hoya R72 infared filter for my Rebel XT. I saw some pictures on another photo site and have fallen in love with the shots. Just wondering if anyone here has taken any and if you have any tips? Thanks :)

I have never taken an IR photo but i like them, some cameras like Sony have the IR opion but not a canon D-SLR.
From what i have read i know that you have to use long exposures, like as 10-20 sec on tripod,if not, everything would be dark.
Then on photoshop you have to play with the channels to bring out the blue channels.
Also you have to focus with visible light before the installation of the IR filter.IR filter stops visible light.
Can't wait to see your photos!!!! :)

My filter should be here sometime this week, or early next week. I did not have a tripod so I went Walmart and bought a tripod. Not the best but it will work until I get something better, I just wanted to have it so I could use my filter when I got it. I am slowly getting the accessories I need for my camera, it is a slow process since I don't have any camera stores and I have to do all of my shopping online. I did find a quantary bag that is decent, not big enough when I get more lenses but I only have the kit lens no so it works well.
I am so excited to try the infared pics, now I have to find something to take a picture of. I have only really seen IR pictures of cemetarys and cool looking churches. Not too sure what would look cool with IR but I can't wait to search! Thanks:)

Well you have seen some of the IR photos I posted on BW but I will post again here in case anyone else wants to see them. I love the filter, I was a little hesitant to buy it because of the price and I wasn't completely sure it would work with a dlsr despite being told it would. They aren't that expensive (after you are reassured it will work) and fun to use. I tried and tried some more before even getting shots that looked remotely like they were suppose to. Then one day, I got the hang of it and now I go out and use it everytime I get a chance. Get one, you'll like it.
