Ive been planning for months to go to the little conservation area near my house and I finally made it 2 weeks ago. I spent the whole day there by myself hiking up trails it was great. Here are some pictures I took

Monarch butterfly. I followed it for about 10 minutes and it wouldnt land long enough to get a really good picture

Alligator snapping turtle. These things are so ugly! They look very prehistoric.

And this poor bird! I was across the little lake from it so I went around the other side to get a better picture and to see what kind of bird it was. Imagine my surprise when I got to it and saw a BIG fishing lure hanging out of its gaped mouth. The poor thing. I called the bird sanctuary and they told mei had to catch him myself. So I sat there in wait with my sweater ready to nab him, but he flew away :(

I took a lot more pictures than this, many of birds, but when i got home the pictures were ruined by the sun, or the birds ended up being too far

Shannon great shots! Must have been quiet and relaxing. Poor bird with the lure, too bad you didn't watch him. Love the frogs and turtles. Those Monarchs don't stand still for very long I've tried to take pictures of them too. Where about were the pictures taken in Ottawa?

Colleen, in the west end of Ottawa theres Lincoln Fields Shopping mall (with the walmart etc.) Theres a neighbourhood across the street from that and behind there theres an NCC bike trail. The bike trail leads into the Britannia Conservation Area. It is a lot fo property I didnt know it was as big as it was

I'll have to check it out one day.
