I was just wondering why? Why did you get involved with photography? Was it a camera as a gift? how did it start? Do you have any photographers that you admire? any photographs? What kind of photography do you like the best?Animals, scenery?

I've always owned a camera, used to take pictures of Birthdays,on trips etc but never really got into it till I got my first digital where you could take pictures of anything and not worry about film etc. I have to admit Olly and Sophia really inspired me and I really enjoy it now. To capture the moment! I'm not very good yet but am sure learning from you guys.

Gotta say mostly from here :) Then once I bought my camera I just started taking more and more photos! Then the more I looked at photos both here and places like Nat Geographic, the more I wanted to get into it. I love animal shots the best :D I think theres always that feeling of always wanting to get a better shot now, so its addicting!

I cant wait to get my SLR! 2 more months woohoo :D

I took a photography class my freshman year in high school. I really go into it for a while. At that time I was working with B&W and had my own darkroom in the basement of my parents house. I had an enlarger and equipment and chemicals for developing film and photos. The cameras we used in school were 35mm rangefinder type. I never owned a 35mm of my own at that time. I would use B&W film in a 126 instamatic camera since the film and negatives would work with the equipment. After I moved away from home, I really didn't do much with photography. I had a point & shoot 35mm of some sort for the odd snapshot here and there, but that's about it. When my first son was born, I decided I need something better to take pictures with. I bought a Minolta X-700 SLR and then started to buy lenses and other accesories for it. I still have all that equipment, but I hardly ever use it since I went digital.
I take pictures of whatever interests me, people, animals, scenery, whatever. That's the nice thing about digital, I can afford to take pictures of everything and then sort it out later. I wish I had more time to work in Photoshop and learn to do some of the magic that Sophia does. Maybe this Winter!

I received from my grandfather a Polaroid SX70 when I was a kid and it was fun with of all the instant photos developped after a minute.
You can see that camera at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SX-70
Then I had several compact cameras, a Pentax SLR, a Minolta SLR before getting digicams. I wasn't that much into photography (that said, I did take thousands of films, mostly slides) but with digital cameras things became affordable as Gary wrote.
Also, I was into weapons before and now I hunt only for taking photos :)

I like to take photos of landscapes or cities, and of course animals.
My problem is I take way too many photos and I need more hard disks... Not much time for enhancing them well. For now, I am trying to take less photos and to catalogue them by adding IPTC info (keywords, location etc). It might require weeks/months!
It is a fun hobby. Unfortunately the weather in the UK is not very friendly ;)

Dad had one of these when I was wee - I loved the way it popped open & closed then waiting for the picture to develop like magic :)

I didn't really get interested in photography until my husband bought our first digital camera a couple of years ago - I was the one who thought we wouldn't use it very much but then I had a go and that was that - he never gets near the camera now! I like being outside taking photos of scenery, flowers and my favourite models our dogs. I've a lot to learn but I'm really enjoying myself :D
