Since the water tower theme didn't work for everybody(although it was interesting to learn some of the different ways of getting water), I was thinking maybe something different would work. I'm betting most cities or towns, no matter where you live, have a sign where you enter with the name of the town on it. If you don't live in town you probably live near one(it would be part of your address). How about a photo of the sign that greets you as you enter town? Would that work for everybody? :)

I don't think there is a Welcome to London sign but I can find a sign of City of London per example :)

That is what I had in mind. It wouldn't have to be a "welcome" sign, just a sign saying the name of the town or city. :)

Interesting Colleen - I was having a look at your towns' website too. Looks like a nice place to live - very different to round here. I see that you are in an area that speaks French - how does this work? Are people fluent in both French and English? Are all signs in both languages? What do they teach in the schools? Are you from here originally? Hope you don't mind the questions - I find the differences between countries interesting :)

I would have to say that there are more French speaking here because we are close to the Quebec border. Most people are bilingual. Most signs are in both languages not all. We have French and English schools, in our English schools they teach French and they also have what we call French emersion where all your classes are in the french language. I'm from Quebec originally and moved here to Ontario 26 years ago. and I don't mind the questions at all.

It is for Dassel's Red Rooster Days, a city celebration that takes place Memorial Day weekend every year. That is why there is a big red rooster on the water tower too. You can learn more about it here:

That's what people tell me, LOL. I've lived here for 18 years and I have never had any! I usually just go to see the classic cars, check out the library book sale and watch the parade which goes right by my house. :)

You pass up BBQ chicken?? Isn't that the way it always is you live close to things and never visit or participate events in your own community. We have a lot of festivities here too but we seldom go.
