Does anyone here use the software Photomatix for HRD photography? I downloaded it a few weeks ago and have read all I can on it but I just can't seem to get it to cooperate with me. One thing I keep reading is that it helps to reduce noise because of the multiple files it is compressing together. I am not finding that to be the case. I'm actually getting a massive amount of noise - some of it so bad that it looks like parts of it are blown out. I just can't seem to figure this thing out!

There is a thread about this software at http://www.photoboard.eu/board/showthread.php?t=618 :)

Thank you very much. I'll read it now. I am determined to figure this thing out.

I tried it quickly and didn't get good results too. I have to test it with photos taken on a tripod. I only tried it with a raw file.

These

http://www.photoboard.eu/photography/showphoto.php?photo=2504&limit=recent
are my recent photos using Photomatix.I manipulated them on photomatix, and then i put them on photoshop as a second layer, and decreased the HDR "phenomenon"
If i don't work them on photoshop after photomatix,i would take photos with a strange "white halo" around the subjects

I love these. Did you use a single image in photomatix?

Thank you!the photos were in RAW format and i took 3 different exposures from every photo and then i edited them on photomatix.
Then,i used the photo that i edited on photomatix,as layer on the original image on Photoshop and i masked it and decrease the oppacity in order to take not very strong HDR result.

I'm sorry to sound so dumb - Did you take a single RAW image and change the exposures into three separate images? I did that last night and it worked for me.

woohoo! Thank you. I was about to get an attitude with the program. It is not as easy (I think) as they claimed it to be. But I guess that's all part of marketing.

It's very easy, can't wait to see your HDR images :)

Working with a single image and changing the exposures manually is far easier than taking three separate exposures from the camera and compressing them together. I was getting pounded by all the noise it produced. The way you have explained it to me is far better to get a grasp of. A little later this evening I will post the test that I did to see what sort of feed back it receives. I know I really need to mess with it a lot more than I have.

Thanks for helping me out. :)
