Finally I went and bought the canon 70-300 IS. I dont know how you guys do it, I think my heart skipped a beat when it came up at just over a thousand (NZ) dollars :eek:

I love it though! Its raining today but im hoping for a sunny day tomorrow so I can take it to the zoo. We had a good laugh at the size difference between it and the 50mm. Even the kit lens looks tiny!

Feels good to have it after such a long wait :D

Congrats, can't wait to see your pictures, I know what you mean about big, I have 200-500, its bigger than my camera and lens together.

The excitement was short lived :( I spent the morning at the zoo and it was great weather! Filled up my card so took it home and downloaded the photos. Went down to the park, took out the camera, and nothing! Wouldn't switch on. Tried changing batteries and lenses but still nothing so its now at canon being looked at.

First my laptop breaks then my camera goes! Thankfully I dont own any more expensive things that haven't already broken :rolleyes:

Ill upload some photos now. Im happy with the lens, its a bit soft at 300 but its not too bad. Hopefully I can be out shooting again soon!

Ah that really sucks. I had something wrong with my camera a ways back it kept saying something on the view finder, but can't remember what it was now but they fixed it no problem. Canon are good for that. Can't wait to see your pics . I love zoos

About buying new lenses, well I try to think they will last forever :)
I also try not to have similar lenses between Nikon and Canon so each lens has an unique use.

Finally got it back! Went to Western Springs (a park with tons of birds, including some very angry geese) today and ive uploaded some photos :)

Its great, im loving it! Waiting patiently for summer for those long sunny days where I can take it out heaps :)
