View Full Version : Hello to all :)
gmacleod 12-30-2007, 01:19 AM Hello to all on photoboard :)
I'm Gwyneth - and despite having joined some time ago, have only now really managed to make some time for actually joining in. I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing site where I can talk about a hobby I really enjoy. There are some great photos in the gallery here :), and I'll add a few of my own rough efforts in time :o For the timebeing, I'm having a bit of a thing with taking photos of small birds, partly because it makes very good use of my favourite lens (canon 300mm f4). Did anyone know that robins have teeth? LOL - that was a surprise to me, but the camera doesn't lie... A curious little guy showing his dental work here: http://www.photomedium.eu/wp-content/gallery/birds/img_2712.jpg and a few more recent bird pictures online: http://www.photomedium.eu/?page_id=4
Welcome Gweneth. Those are very nice bird photo's. Next to boxers, birds are my favorite subject. :)
Welcome to the board :) Good gear and great photos! Very weird that robin...
x19er 12-31-2007, 10:57 AM Hello and welcome :)
Like the birds - especially the long-tailed tits - we don't see them round our way.
Looking forward to seeing more of your photos.

They do not exist in Scotland?
It is very hard to get a good photo of them, they are so tiny and usually there are many branches on the way so the autofocus can't focus well.

I
Yes they do - not in the north or west though, but as we are in the south east there should be some here somewhere! I've just not spotted them ;)
gmacleod 01-01-2008, 12:15 PM Thanks for the warm welcomes :) and the kind comments on the birds.
Jan - I guess the teeth were no surprise to you  I'll know where to come for identifying the (many) birds I don't know :)
x19er - The tiny guys seem to love gorse bushes. Or at least, that's one of the few spots where I've been able to get a reasonable photo (don't have enough zoom for such little birds when they're in tall trees). I'm planning on spending a couple of weeks in Scotland (mostly highlands) at the beginning of May, and I'm hoping to get some good wildlife pictures out of that trip. Especially a red squirrel! LOL
Colleen 01-03-2008, 09:16 AM Hey Gwyneth welcome back! wierd bird! Our Robins are not like that here but nice photos, look forward to seeing more, love birds.

Ah the wee red squirrel, never fear I know exactly where you can find one ;) Friends in Inverness have one that feeds in their garden every day, last time we stayed there, in the morning there was a row of chairs and everybody sitting with a cuppa waiting for it to make an appearance :D Unfortunately a Pine Martin has also started to visit the garden but so far squirrel has stayed out its way.
gmacleod 01-14-2008, 12:17 PM Weeelll - I'll be travelling through Inverness, from Edinburgh, so hopefully I'll be lucky enough to find one ready to tapdance for my camera (or even just sit still long enough for a quiet shot).

Now that I have to see :D
Our friends live in the Balloch area of Inverness so if your stopping for a leg stretch near any wooded areas or a site seeing visit round the battlefield of Culloden (just along the road) keep your eyes peeled.
gmacleod 01-25-2008, 09:23 PM :D If it happens and isn't blurry, tapdance pictures will be duly posted.
We'll be passing very near Culloden, and will very likely call in there. I've spent some stupid amount of time in the last weeks getting all the accomodation arrangements sorted, but it's all set now. So all that's needed is my tapdancing squirrels (and no rain) :)
g7_m8 03-11-2008, 12:11 AM Hi Gwyneth and welcome - sorry I'm a little belated in my greeting.
Love the photo of the robin and those teeth. I'll pay more attention to the robins in my yard tomorrow!
I look forward to seeing more from you :)
x19er 06-11-2008, 08:54 AM Hope you had a good trip? Have you any photos to show us?
Haven't seen any tapdancing squirrel shots yet ;)
gmacleod 06-18-2008, 07:36 PM Ahh - not a single squirrel was seen, I'm afraid. I have many other pictures though :) Just got to get a chance to sort through them, and select a few for resizing.
