Mine is the Canon 300mm f4 IS - and it's this lens alone that makes it hard for me to decide whether to stick with Canon or head completely over to Nikon. It's a lovely, lightweight telephoto with fantastic sharpness - little of which is lost with a 1.4 converter, with which it becomes a 420mm (total magnification on the 30D = 672mm at f5.6). It does a pretty good near-macro image also, even on small targets such as insects.

Mine is the Nikkor 70-200f2.8vr because of its extremely fast autofocus and useful range when taking photos of flying birds.

I don't prefer my most expensive lens, its way too big to use all the time, I need my tripod. I prefer the one I use all the time, my Tamron 28-300MM IF 1:3.5 - 6.3 macro.
