View Full Version : 200mm f/2G ED-IF AF-S VR NIKKOR
I ordered it :D
The store does not have it so I am on a waiting list. Hopefully I get it quickly :)
It seems it is a very versatile lens as it works well with a x1.4 converter (280mm f2.8) and apparently also with the x2 converter (400mm f4). It is stabilised. Only problem is its weight (2.9 Kg - 6.4 lbs) but I will get used to it ;)

gmacleod 03-07-2008, 01:04 PM Impressive :) Your new favourite lens, I'm sure!
It's going to be fun to see how it performs (and how infrequently it leaves your camera ;)).
Douma 03-08-2008, 05:51 PM A prime telephoto! It must be great choice, when you take the lens, you have to compare it with your 70-200
Colleen 03-09-2008, 04:30 AM Olly you are going to need a suitcase to carry all your stuff:D
It should arrive today. Of course the weather is really crappy with wind and rain...
Sophia, I will compare them but from what I have read the 200f2 is an exceptionnally sharp lens at already f2. I worry a little it might replace fully the 70-200f2.8vr.
Olly you are going to need a suitcase to carry all your stuff:D
It is already needed if I take all the lenses. I should take a photo of all the lenses one day :D
Just got the lens delivered :D
That piece of glass is massive. Makes the 70-200f2.8 looks tiny LOL
Here's Arnold

Colleen 03-10-2008, 12:01 PM I have to admit Arnold ;) fits right in there with the rest of the family now all we need is some nice weather and we can see what he can do!
A small suitcase with wheels:D
Sending you nice weather.
gmacleod 03-10-2008, 01:38 PM LOL - No prizes for guessing why it's being called Arnold! You'll get fit carrying that around :)
x19er 03-10-2008, 04:58 PM Well I guess in this case size does matter ;)
Very impressive piece of kit!

Very smooth background!
First photos taken outdoor this morning :D
It was a crappy day, dark, cold, windy and rainy but the photos were surprising good. I am certain I would not have been able to take them using any other lenses I have. They were all taken at f2 excepted the headshot of the goose taken at f2.8 (at f2 you cannot have both the nose and the eyes sharp because of the too limited depth of field).

Tomorrow morning it is supposed to be sunny :) (but today it was not supposed to rain...).
gmacleod 03-11-2008, 10:53 PM The Mallard shot, in particular, is wonderful. Especially considering the terrible weather (wind, rain and darkness - not at all ideal conditions LOL). Arnold is going to earn his keep :)
Douma 03-12-2008, 07:41 PM Very nice images especially the "Flying ducks",this lens is great choice!!

LOL once I did carry several camera bodies and lenses but it was nowhere near this guy :D
As for comparing with the 70-200 f2.8, I can say the new one is a lot sharper and it is very sharp at f2. With the 70-200 it is sharp at f2.8 only if you are taking a photo of something close enough like a robin at 2 metres. At 5 metres it will not be "sharp". If you want to have very sharp photos with the 70-200 the best is to go at f5.6 but again it depends on the subject. At f2.8 it is fine for a portrait per example.
I will do some tests using a tripod but lately the weather has been pretty bad with wind and rain intervals.
